Sabbie e Nebbie
Hidden down the back streets near San Toma', Sabbie e Nebbie is a delightful find. Away from all the glass and mask shops this shop, stocked with Japanese-inspired products, is perfect for a different kind of gift. From bags and scarves to tea pots and finger bowls, there really is something for every budget. Maria Teresa Laghi is the friendly owner and speaks perfect English and, unusually for Venice, the prices are clearly displayed.
Materialmente
This shop has jewellery and beautiful sculptural ornaments, frames, mirrors and candle holders which have been handmade from metal, paper and wood. Prices are displayed.
Dalla Venezia
Angelo Dalla Venezia makes sculptural items in wood - spheres, eggs, cylinders, pyramids, cubes, spinning tips and more.
Malefatte
Working with the Women's Prison on Giudecca and the Men's Prison near Piazzale Roma, this cooperative brings prisoners and volunteers together to work on various projects. Together they produce silk screen products, handbags and bags, several lines of cosmetics and cultivate organic vegetables. These products are sold in shops and through public and private commissions.
The bags and t-shirts can be bought from a kiosk in Campo Santo Stefano.

Alberto Valese
This is where you can find the original marbled paper which is now sold around the city and, indeed, the world.
Alberto Valese reinvented this technique using knowledge from Persia and Turkey and research into traditional texts. He still continues to make it using these old methods. In the shop you can buy this beautiful paper applied to objects for the home, the writing desk and even clothing accessories in where the technique has been applied to silk.
You can also sign up for courses to learn the technique yourself.
